Leaf cutter ant enclosure

The ants' enclosure

The ants must really like where they live at the moment as the Queen is producing huge numbers of eggs so they will need to move to a larger space as soon as possible. The new enclosure for our leaf cutter ants will have a bigger nest site so they can make a huge fungus garden. A larger viewing window will let visitors get really close to the action.

The trails the ants use to collect their leaves to make the fungus garden will stretch even further in long clear plastic tubes above the visitor’s heads to the feeding station.

We will also have cameras focusing on ants as they go about their daily business of looking after and feeding the colony. These cameras will be also linked to our website.

Have you been to visit? I live in the Bug House at World Museum Liverpool. When you visit WML you may be able to see me working away, high above the gallery!
