The chair was marketed by the Morris firm as the Rossetti armchair though there is no evidence that Rossetti designed it. It is based on French country chairs of the early 19th century. Examples of the chair differ slightly because they were all made by individual craftsmen. The earlier armchairs are as here, trimmed with red painted lines.
