Ship paintings 1840 - 1860
The works in this section reflect Liverpool's growing importance as both a centre of international trade and shipbuilding. Ships built on the Mersey sailed around the world carrying out a wide variety of services. Here you can see mail ships, cargo vessels and passenger ships, most of which were either built or owned by Liverpool companies.
